Rhiain Lefton Portrait

More about Rhiain

Rhiain, your course lead, is a bilingual British landscape photographer from the local area. She exhibits and sells internationally, with works in private collections and commissions. Growing up in an artistic family, Rhiain studied in both France and the UK, earning a Master’s in Critical Theory with distinction and completing photography courses. Her work contributes to the field of ecological photography, engaging with conversations around the Anthropocene.

What to expect

You’ll spend a week developing a cohesive body of work (preparation, photographing, editing, printing), honing your unique approach to landscape photography. You’ll explore how to prepare a project, composition and techniques. Through daily practice, classes,  photo reviews, and guided editing, you’ll develop your sensitivity and strengthen your critical eye. Each participant can schedule a one-on-one session with Rhiain. This course emphasizes creative exploration over technical training, with no darkroom facilities available. You’ll also learn fine art digital printing, with three high-quality prints included in the course and teh option to exhibit them at the end of the week. Guest speakers will join us for discussions on topics like local history and editing techniques.

‘If you know nothing about shooting landscapes – or if you think you know everything about it – take this course. Rhiain will open your eyes to the world around you in ways subtle and piercing. She’s incredibly supportive and knowledgeable, a gifted photographer and compassionate teacher. Added bonuses: this area of France is amazing, so far largely untouched by “Western culture,” and Canel is an oasis in its own right, with wonderful hosts and peace for your soul.’  Norman M, US,  Sep 2024
